I HAVE a tiled kitchen floor, which is in a good state of repair, there are no loose or damaged tiles. I'm thinking of fitting a laminate floor over the existing tiles instead of ripping them up. Is this a good idea? - Jim, by email

I laid laminate over tiles in my kitchen eight years ago and it's still looking good. B&Q's new addition to its Simplifit range is a solid wood flooring - it costs more than the laminate but, unlike other solid wood planks, it click-fits together, which makes it an easy DIY option. Priced pounds 40 per sq m until August 7, there's a four for the price of three offer. Go to www.diy.com or call 0845 850 0175.
